The 6 pillars of faith
The essential foundations of Muslim belief, mentioned in the famous Hadith of Jibril.
"Faith (Iman) is that you believe in Allah, in His angels, in His Books, in His Messengers, in the Last Day, and that you believe in destiny, whether it be good or bad."
— Hadith of Jibril • Sahih Muslim, no. 8
Faith in Allah
Believing in the existence of Allah, His oneness, His perfect names and attributes.
Faith in the Angels
Believing in the existence of angels created from light, who only obey Allah.
Faith in the Revealed Books
Believing in the Scriptures sent by Allah, of which the Quran is the last and most preserved.
Faith in the Messengers
Believing in all the prophets sent by Allah, from Adam to Muhammad ﷺ.
Faith in the Last Day
Believing in resurrection, judgment and eternal life in Paradise or Hell.
Faith in Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Believing that all good and evil comes from Allah, according to His wisdom and knowledge.
💡 Important point
These six pillars are inseparable. Believing in Allah without believing in Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, for example, is not sufficient. Complete faith requires firmly believing in all six elements.
